Brooklyn's no-nonsense techno innovator Benny Guzi serves up a thrilling new EP on NowNow Records.
This uncompromising American is a prolific talent who has put out several self-released EPs already in 2021. His industrial sound is designed to explode dance floors of any size, and that is very much the case across the three visceral tracks here. His motto is 'play harder,' and is one he lives up to every time. NowNow Records is the fledgling label from Amsterdam based techno DJ and producer Lee Ann Roberts.
Benny Guzi's arresting opener 'Fake Records' demands you strap in from the off. It's a high octane techno banger that is lacerated by searing acid and razor-sharp snares. A turbocharged bassline brings extra power as this wall of sound washes over you time and time again. The all-consuming 'Air' is built on stern and stomping drums but the darkness is permeated by bright, trance-tinged chords up top. It's a thrilling duality that will have floors in raptures. Last but not least, 'Bliss' gets you in a hypnotised state with its video game synths and gurgling acid. Adding a sense of soul is the angelic vocal that floats above the techno turbulence. During the epic breakdown, the vocal is sure to send shivers through the club.
